Summary about the problems of the media system
The coalition of Hungarian NGO-s leading the "European Citizen's Initiative for Media Pluralism" collected almost thousand signatures at the demonstration of the opposition on 30 March 2014 in Budapest.
Four Hungarian NGOs - CivilMedia, the Hungarian Europe Society, Mérték Monitor, and the SEENPM - sent a letter to Neelie Kroes, Vice Chairwoman of the European Commission presenting the latest chapter of the Klubrádió saga on 14 October 2013.

The European Citizens' Initiative (ECI) on Media Pluralism and Press Freedom was approved by the European Commission on 19 August 2013.
István Hegedűs made a presentation at the conference on “The role of national parliaments in media regulation in Europe” organised by the Committee on Culture, Science, Education and Media of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe and hosted by the House of Commons of the Parliament of the United Kingdom, London, Portcullis House on 21-22 May 2013.
István Hegedűs participated at the meeting of the campaign organisers of the European Initiative for Media Pluralism in Rome on 18 May 2013.
Program
In Britain, the campaign of the European Citizens' Initiative for Media Pluralism started on 21 March 2013. István Hegedűs represented the coalition of Hungarian NGO-s at the event in the House of Lords.
The Hungarian Europe Society, Milla (One Million for the Freedom of the Press in Hungary), the Standards Media Monitor, and the South East European Network for Professionalization of Media (SEENPM) held a press conference on 28 February 2013 to report the launch of their campaign "European Citizens’ Initiative on Media Pluralism" in Hungary. The four NGO-s proclaimed the start of the online collection of signatures for media pluralism and freedom of the press.

The European Citizens’ initiative for Media Pluralism was registered by the European Commission on 5 October 2012. The Hungarian campaign will be led by a coalition of five NGO-s, including HES.
